Office of the District Attorney General
Sullivan County, TN
Child Support

The Child Support Division of the District Attorney General’s office was created in 1977 when the District Attorney General signed a contract with the State Department of Human Services agreeing to provide the legal services necessary for the collection of the court-ordered support for the dependent children and establish paternity for children born out of wedlock.

From three employees and first year collections of $60,000, the Division over the intervening years has grown to thirteen employees with collections totaling 4.6 million for the first nine months of the 2003-2004 fiscal year.
Other changes, such as a statewide-computerized system to direct all payments to a central location in Nashville have also been made. Such changes have been instated to make the process more responsive to client needs.
Much of the money collected as a result of our efforts goes directly back to state coffers to replace welfare funds distributed under the aid to dependent children provisions.

For further information contact the Child Support Division at (423) 279-3295.
