December 20, 2016
On December 8, 2016, the Sullivan County District Attorneys Office, along with HOPE for Victims Support and Advocacy Group, lit a Remembrance Tree in front of the historic courthouse in Blountville to honor and remember victims of homicide.
Attendees included Executive Director of HOPE for Victims Joan Berry, Sullivan County District Attorney General Barry Staubus, Executive Director of the Sullivan County Department of Archives Sheila Hunt, and Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey.
The Remembrance Tree was lit in conjunction with the Blountville Tree Lighting. During the ceremony, families of homicide victims brought ornaments to commemorate their loved ones and hung them on a wreath. After the ceremony, the wreath was taken to the Sullivan County Justice Center where it will be on display throughout the month of December.
