Mission Statement: The mission of the Victim Witness Program of Sullivan County is to educate, support, and aid victims and witnesses of crime as they move through the criminal justice process. It is our goal to inform victims of their rights, to advocate for enforcement of these rights, and to coordinate with community agencies to ensure the continuation of support for victims once their case has been resolved in the court system.
The Second Judicial District uses VOCA Victim Witness Assistance grant funds through OCJP to support the achievement of our mission. The project provides victim witness assistance to victims of domestic violence, child abuse, assault, robbery, DUI crashes, survivors of homicide victims, adults molested as children, and elder abuse in Sullivan County which includes the cities of Kingsport, Bristol, Blountville, Piney Flats, and Bluff City. The purpose of the victim witness assistance program is to help victims understand the court process, to let them know that they have an advocate on their side who believes in them and will support them throughout the court proceedings, and to follow up after their case has been resolved to ascertain if they are adjusting well. The services are available to all victims of crime in Sullivan County regardless of sex, age, or race. While the project focuses mainly on domestic violence assault, it also reaches out to the underserved including victims of DUI crashes, survivors of homicide victims, adults molested as children, and elder abuse.
