Each year two local heroes, Officer Mark Vance and Sergeant Steve Hinkle, are honored for their ultimate sacrifice for domestic violence victims and their communities.
The Mark Vance Award was created in 2005 to recognize each year the officer who exemplifies high standards, professionalism, and a strong dedication to ending the cycle of domestic violence in Sullivan County. This year’s recipient was Detective Michelle Gilliam with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office. Certificates were awarded to two other nominees for their service to victims of domestic violence: Officer Shannon Barker with the Bristol TN Police Department, and Officer Dillon Moyers with the Kingsport Police Department.
Our own Assistant District Attorney Kaylin Render received the Service Professional of the Year Award for her dedication to Branch House and unwavering commitment to victims of interpersonal violence.
